Note: This is one of the most versatile pieces in the classical gigging repertoire, useful for preludes, slow processionals, interludes, and even receptions. The St Anthony Chorale is sometimes misattributed to Brahms, who used it as the theme in his Variations on a Theme by Haydn. Despite the title, there are no religious lyrics or conventions associates with the piece. The violin part in this arrangement can be performed on flute or oboe by omitting double stops.
St Anthony Chorale is also available in duo versions for two violins, two violas, violin/cello, and viola/cello.
