St Anthony Chorale (string quartet)

Title: St Anthony Chorale

Composer: Joseph Haydn, arr. David Gable

Instrumentation: Violin 1, Violin 2, Viola, Cello

Note: This chorale was used by Brahms in his famous Variations on a Theme by Haydn, and it is therefore often mistakenly attributed to Brahms.  St Anthony Chorale can be an engaging prelude piece, a beautiful slow processional, or an evocative meditation or interlude. The violin 1 part in this setting can be played on flute, oboe or trumpet.

More works by Haydn:

Andante for Musical Clock – 1772
