Note: Nicolas Chédeville was a composer of the French baroque who wrote primarily light works for small ensembles, frequently with multiple possible uses. The sonatas of op. 8 were designed to be playable on two violins, two flutes, two oboes, or two musettes, the latter being Chédeville’s own instrument. “L’Italienne” is a delightful sonata, and the movements included here are characteristic of the composer’s style.
Audio samples can be heard on the pages for individual movements. Click on the highlighted titles to listen.
