Note: The Cantigas de Santa Maria is a thirteenth century collection of devotional songs gathered at the behest of Alfonso X of Castile. A Virgen mui groriosa (To the Virgin so glorious) is a hauntingly beautiful song telling the story of a young man who places his ring on the finger of a statue of St Mary for safe-keeping, and then feels moved to devote his life to her service.
