Va, Pensiero, from Nabucco (violin viola duo)

Title: Va, Pensiero, from the opera Nabucco

Composer: Giuseppe Verdi, arr. David Gable

Instrumentation: Violin and Viola

Printout: 4 pages

Note: Va, Pensiero is one of Verdi’s most beautiful opera choruses. It was so beloved by the people of Milan that when Verdi died, those who lined the streets to mourn his passing broke spontaneously into singing it. In this setting, the melody is carried largely by the viola, while the violin plays the rolling arpeggio accompaniment.
