Note: William Byrd was a Catholic composer who worked in Protestant Elizabethan England. He had an abiding interest in English folk songs and dance music, arranging many such pieces for the virginal, a Renaissance era keyboard instrument. Sellinger’s Round, a traditional dance tune, fits well into an early music or baroque performance set.
