Marche from La Musette (string trio – violin, viola, cello)

Title: Marche, from La Musette, ou les Bergers de Suresne

Composer: Elisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre, arr. David Gable

Instrumentation: Violin; Viola; Cello

Printout: 3 pages

Note: This march is the opening instrumental number of the Jacquet de La Guerre’s divertissement pastoral The Musette, or the Shepherds of Suresne, which was published and premiered in 1713. Jacquet de La Guerre was one of the few women composers of the baroque era. Her operas, sadly were too innovative for patrons of the French theater, and were largely unsuccessful during her lifetime. Interest in Jacquet de la Guerre’s music for the stage has experienced a resurgence in modern times.
