Note: Though not so designated in the score, this rondeau follows the rhythmic and metric patterns of a gavotte. It is heard in the opera’s prologue. It’s lively character has appeal at festive events. Cephale et Procris is the only extant opera of Jacquet de La Guerre, despite her recognition by her contemporaries as an prominent composer for the stage.
