Note: Born in 1620, Isbella Leonarda became a nun at the age of 16. She was named magistra musicae for the convent by 1658. She composed many religious choral works, though her skill in counterpoint is particularly apparent in her instrumental music. Her Op. 16 trio sonatas, from which this movement is drawn, rival those of her more famous contemporaries.
