Solace (violin cello duo)

Title: Solace

Composer: Scott Joplin, arr. David Gable

Instrumentation: Violin and Cello

Printout: 4 pages

Note: Subtitled “A Mexican Serenade”, Solace is full of syncopations and Latinesque rhythms that, when played at a “very slow march tempo” as the composer indicated, give the piece a sinuous and sultry character quite different from much of Joplin’s other ragtime music. Published in 1909, Solace represents the mature Joplin at his most elegant.
