Shepherds’ Dance, from Danserye (viola duo)

Title: Shepherds’ Dance, from Danserye (1551)

Composer: Tielman Susato, arr. David Gable

Instrumentation: Two Violas

Printout: 4 pages

Note: Danserye is Susato’s collection of traditional dance music published in 1551. This piece, also known by the German title Shafertanz, is ideal for light settings like weddings and parties, and it fits equally well into sets of renaissance, baroque, or dance music. Incidentally, Susato’s publishing house was the first to use moveable type in the production of printed music.
