Note: This traditional song celebrating the cherry blossom season became popular in  late 19th century Japan. There is no evidence of earlier creation. The melody uses a pentatonic scale, known as the In scale, that includes two half steps (in this setting the scale is C, D, E-flat, G, A-flat). For coloristic reasons  the harmony lines have not been limited to notes in that scale.
