Note: This charming rondo comes from the prologue to Jacquet de La Guerre’s only surviving opera. The composer creates textural variety by having the viola (violin 3 in the original instrumentation) carry the base line periodically. As in other works of the French baroque, the eight notes should be performed inégales.
