Marche in D from Cephale et Procris (string quartet)
Title: Marche in D, from the opera Cephale et Procris
Composer: Élisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre, arr. David Gable
Instrumentation: Violin 1; Violin 2; Viola; Cello
Printout: 8 pages
Note: Élisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre was recognized during her lifetime both as a composer and as a harpsichord virtuoso. She wrote several excellent works for the stage, and her works for solo harpsichord are particularly innovative. This march in rondo form is intriguing because it alternates between 6-bar and 8-bar phrases, a structure not typical for marches of that time.
