Title: Godi, bell’ alma, from the opera La Griselda
Composer: Allesandro Scarlatti, arr. David Gable
Instrumentation: Violin 1; Violin 2; Viola; Cello
Printout: 8 pages
Note: Allesandro Scarlatti was one of the most important opera composers of the Italian baroque, and La Griselda is arguably one of his best works. This aria, with obligato unison violins paired with soprano solo, adapts beautifully for string quartet. In this arrangement, violin 1 plays the obligato, violin 2 carries the soprano part, and viola and cello fill out the basso continuo.
