Note: In Act I of La Traviata, Violetta, the courtesan, gives a party to celebrate her recovery from a serious illness. During the dancing, Alfredo, an admirer, finds an opportunity to express his love while the other guests are dancing in the ballroom. His melody at the opening of the duet reflects the theme of the waltz which precedes it. These two selections are high points of the opera repertory.
The viola part in this arrangement goes quite high, as it covers the coloratura passages. Much of the part is in treble clef.
