Note: A troika is a Russian sleigh drawn by three horses, and “troika” is also the name given to a traditional dance in which groups of three dancers imitate the high steps of horses trotting in snow. This setting uses double stops in both parts to create an effect like a Slavic violin band. It works well for festive occasions and is also engaging enough to serve as an encore for a light chamber music program.
