The Magnet and the Churn, from Patience (SAB Chorus)

Title: The Magnet and the Churn, from Patience

Composer: Gilbert and Sullivan, arr. David Gable

Printout: 5 pages

Note: When my middle school choristers were engaged in the study of electricity and magnetism and I wanted something whimsical to complement their studies, I turned – where else – to Gilbert and Sullivan. I took the original, for tenor and orchestra with interjections by women’s chorus, and adapted it for SAB chorus, a cappella so we could sing it without piano. There is a musical gap In measures 9 and 10 which can be filled by whistling or some musical instrument like a flute (silver of course).
