Tango in D, from España Suite, op. 165 (violin viola duo)
Title: Tango in D, from España, op. 165
Composer: Isaac Albeniz, arr. David Gable
Instrumentation: Violin and Viola
Printout: 4 pages
Note: Albeniz was one of Spain’s foremost composers in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and this Tango (originally written for piano) is arguably one of his most celebrated pieces. The tango originated in Argentina in the mid-1800s, and soon became popular throughout the western world, despite efforts to suppress it for its inherent sensuality. Albeniz’s España suite dates from 1890.
