Tambourin, from Le triomphe de la République (violin duo)

Title: Tambourin, from the divertissement Le triomphe de la République

Composer: François-Joseph Gossec, arr. David Gable

Instrumentation: Two Violins

Printout: 4 pages

Note: Gossec was a supporter of the revolutionary faction in France and wrote much music in praise of the revolution and its espoused egalitarianism. He was also Napoleon’s favorite composer. Needless to say, with the restoration of the monarchy under Louis XVIII, Gossec’s music fell into disfavor. This tambourin is one of his most celebrated compositions.
