Soldiers’ Chorus (Part II – “Squilli, ercheggi”), from Il Trovatore (string quartet)
Title: Soldiers’ Chorus (Part II – “Squilli, ercheggi”), from the opera Il Trovatore
Composer: Giuseppe Verdi, arr. David Gable
Instrumentation: Violin1, Violin 2, Viola and Cello
Printout: 6 pages
Note: The famous Soldier’s Chorus from Il Trovatore is divided by a recitative that, while essential to the plot, is musically less interesting that the rest of the scene. In this, the second choral section, the soldiers celebrate the stirring sound of trumpets. For concert settings, the first part, “Or co’ dadi,” and “Squilli, ercheggi” are often performed as a pair.
