$5.99
Title: Greensleeves: Variations for String Quartet
Composer: David Gable
Instrumentation: Violin 1, Violin 2, Viola, Cello
Printout: 7 pages
Note: Dating back at least as far as the time of Shakespeare, Greensleeves became a Christmas classic in the mid-nineteenth century when English hymnodist William Chatterton Dix set to it the lyrics “What child is this?” In this setting, the familiar tune is shared by violin 1 and viola, with the two violins providing a delicate filigree over the viola melody in the second section.
Greensleeves is also available in duet settings for two violins, violin/viola, and violin/cello.
