Danza de Hércules (viola cello duo)
Title: Danza de Hércules
Composer: Tielman Susato, arr. David Gable
Instrumentation: Viola and Cello
Printout: 2 pages
Note: Susato was a prominent figure in the musical world of the sixteenth century: a composer, publisher and musicologist. This dance features one of his favorite devices – transforming a theme from duple to triple meter. A variation such as might have been improvised by renaissance era performers has been added to round off the setting. In addition to being a good piece for gig use, Danza de Hércules is an excellent tool for introducing intermediate students to ensemble playing.
