Note: Giovanni Paolo Cima (c. 1570 – 1630) was a master of the early baroque who wrote largely for the church but also produced some excellent and innovative chamber music. He is credited with the first published trio sonata in 1610. This canzon begins with a fugal section in D minor that switches suddenly into a bright dance-like section in 3/4 time before ending with rippling sixteenth notes and a bright D Major cadence. This music is appropriate for gig or for concert use.
