Note: Written to be performed early in the Advent season, Cantata 140 (“Sleepers Awake”) is one of Bach’s most beautiful creations. The entire work is based on a chorale by Philipp Nicolai which Bach presented with this harmonization as the final movement of the cantata. Gloria sei dir gesungen (Let praises be sung to you) is excellent music for Advent, Christmas, and  Christian or non-denominational weddings.
