Note: Greensleeves is an essential piece for anyone playing Christmas Eve services, or even holiday office parties. The melody, which was first published as a ballad in 1580, was sufficiently known by 1597 to be referenced in Shakespeare’s The Merry Wives of Windsor. It is also available in duet form for violin and viola and for violin and cello.
