String Duos - Two Violas
Given that Quantz advised violists to practice diligently lest they spend the rest of their lives playing viola, it is hardly surprising that little repertoire for two violas was produced, either during the baroque era or later (the sixth Brandenburg being the notable exception). The duet arrangements in this category were selected to make full advantage of the sonorous sound of a viola duo.
