Who’s That Tapping? (viola and piano)

$3.29

Title: Who’s That Tapping?

Composer: traditional children’s game song, arr. David Gable

Instrumentation: Viola and Piano

Printout: 2 pages

Note: The game consists of a child with eyes closed trying to guess who in the circle is making a tapping sound. The pizzicato and col legno variations imitate the sounds of tapping. The first two variations employ familiar rhythms. Although col legno playing is not commonly employed in instructional music, it is frequently used in twentieth century compositions. It is also useful as a pedagogical tool, since it helps develop dexterity in the fingers of the bow hand.

Skills: D Major; 4/4 time; requires only two fingers; rhythm variations; predictable melodic figures; pizzicato; col legno.
