Note: The question of who wrote the St Anthony Chorale is unresolved. Attributions to Brahms are clearly incorrect, as he titled his famous orchestral piece Variations on a Theme by Haydn. Haydn’s authorship is also in doubt. Ignaz Pleyel has also been suggested as a possible author. In any case, the tune remains one of the most memorable melodies in the classical repertoire, and it is a popular request for weddings of all denominations.
