Note: Torna a Surriento (come back to Sorrento) was composed in 1894 and reworked in 1902 to commemorate the visit of Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Zanardelli to Sorrento. Its beautiful melody is enhanced by evocative shifts between major and minor modes. The violin part in this setting can be performed on flute or oboe with minor adjustments.
