Note: Isabella Leonarda (1620 – 1704) was born to a promiment Novarese family. She became a nun at the age of 16 and published her first music at the age of 20. Her opus 16, published in 1693, is the first set of instrumental sonatas published by a woman. Her skill in counterpoint, which is evidenced in this movement, rivaled that of any of her contemporaries.
